SLR Honda | Glen Helen Raceway | Round 4/5

The SLR Honda team competed in back-to-back rounds this last weekend for round 4 and 5 of the Worcs Series at their home track, Glen Helen Raceway. With a $10k pro purse up for grabs, this event is unlike many others and team riders, Trevor Stewart and Cole Martinez were in the running for the opportunity to score points and a big pay-out. Pro 2 rider, Tallon Lafoutnaine had his own battle to fight as he currently sits in 2nd place for the points lead going into the weekend.

Race Action
Cole Martinez #34 fought his way through round 4 on Saturday after a major crash in lap 1. Not far from the top riders, he was able to maintain a top 5 lead, crossing the finish line in 4th place and gaining 18 more points before moving into Round 5 the following day. With a few minor health issues, Martinez brought his same determination into Sunday’s race but ultimately found himself in 7th place and closing out the weekend in 4th for the overall points lead in the Pro Class.

Consistently running with the top riders in the Pro Class, Trevor Stewart #75 had his eyes on the prize this weekend. In round 4, Stewart had a great start and kept a top 3 pace throughout the entirety of the race. Unfortunately, after a crash in the last lap, Stewart moved back to 6th and couldn’t make up for the lost time. Going into Round 5, Stewart quickly grabbed the lead by the second corner until Taylor Robert got around him. He was running with the top 3 for most of the race until losing a spot and finishing in 4th. Trevor Stewart is now standing in 5th place for overall series points.

Tallon Lafountaine #259 had a solid performance all weekend long and managed to quickly move himself from 3rd to 2nd on the first lap of round 4 by making a strategic charge early on. With a well-earned 2nd pace finish, Lafountaine gained important series points and confidence to battle in round 5. A new round and newly added pro sections, Lafoutnaine was caught in a pile-up which set him towards the back of the pack. Battling through the rest of the race, Lafoutnaine made many passes and eventually crossed the finish line in 4th for round 5 and 2nd place for overall series points in the Pro 2 class.

The next scheduled race for the SLR Honda team will be Round 4 of the Worcs series on June 14, 2020 in Wickenburg, AZ.

2020 Worcs Series

SLR Honda | Mesquite, NV | Round 3

The SLR Honda team competed in the third round of the 2020 Worcs series on May 31st, 2020 in Mesquite, NV after an unexpected 3-month break. With an unusually extended amount of off time, the team was able to prepare for this race in the weeks prior as best they could while adding an extra layer of challenges with the rising temperatures.

Race Action

Cole Martinez #34 fought throughout the race to find himself in the leader pack after battling from behind. Finishing the race in 3rd place and back on the podium in the Pro Class, Martinez maintained his 3rd position in overall series points standings. The heat and tough track conditions played a part on teammate and Pro class rider, Trevor Stewart #75. Unfortunately, it came to an end early resulting in a DNF after a hard fight. Stewart is positioned only 1 point behind 5th place in the overall series points and with more consistent racing to come, Stewart is confident to find himself back on the podium.

Tallon Lafountaine #259 performed a solid race while battling for a podium finish in Pro 2. Lafountaine managed a 2nd place finish and a 2nd place series points standing while overcoming the unconventional track conditions. Lafountaine continues the battle to be a top rider in the Pro
2 class and proves his position in each race. The next scheduled race for the SLR Honda team will be Round 4 of the Worcs series on June 14, 2020 in Wickenburg, AZ.
